History of SKLD

From Courthouse Records to Property Intelligence

Founded in 1961, SKLD Information Services was created by Security Title Guarantee Company, Kansas City Title Insurance Company, Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation, and The Denver Abstract Company to provide a centralized source of title information for the Colorado title industry.

In its early years, SKLD collected and indexed recorded documents from county recorder offices. Information from deeds, mortgages, easements, liens, subdivision plats, judgments, and other real estate records was organized into title plants that allowed title professionals to research ownership and property rights more efficiently.

Over the decades, SKLD expanded its capabilities to include parcel mapping, ARB numbering systems, document imaging, ownership research, legal description analysis, and property reporting. By connecting recorded documents to mapped ownership parcels, SKLD transformed raw public records into valuable property intelligence used throughout the real estate industry.

Today, SKLD's history reflects the broader evolution of property records — from manual courthouse searches to sophisticated digital land information systems.
